Germany to accelerate asylum request procedures

The high number of asylum seekers has turned into a hot topic in
Germany. The President of the Federal Office for Immigration and
Refugees, Manfred Schmidt, said for the local media that it is time to
accelerate the procedures with people coming from Balkan, since their
number has increased in numbers that have surprised the German
authorities.
When asked if Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro are considered safe countries of origin, Schmidt says the request to declare them as safe origin is a clear message that the time for treating the requests should be cut considerably.
“We will give sanctions for unreasonable asylum requests, such as blockage of entrance in the Schengen area or in Germany”, Schmidt says.
