To the file of the relations between Albania and Germany, which have
been considered as the best ever had so far, will be added the case of
spying.
The fact published by the German newspaper “Der Spiegel”, which was not denied by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, shows that Germany has spied Albania for years.
The Albanian Foreign Minister declared that Albania will treat this issue with all official and diplomatic instruments, but he added that both countries are NATO members and committed to regional safety.
“Albania will treat this issue through the official and diplomatic channels, and I have nothing to add to what the German chancellor has declared, that the national security issues are addressed through diplomatic channels. On the other hand, we are NATO members and there is a political, military and intelligence cooperation. Cooperation is key in national security issues, because these are phenomena that go beyond borders”, Bushati declared.
In the joint conference with the counterpart of Latvia, who arrived to Tirana on an official visit, Bushati underlined the expectancies of Albania and of the region from the Berlin Conference. He considered this a process that will help structuring the political and economic relations between the Balkan countries.
This orientation is also the purpose of the visit of the Albanian Prime Minister in Belgrade. The Foreign Minister confirmed that it will take place within autumn, but it will not be that satisfactory if Serbia will not answer some pending issues, such as the rights and freedoms of the Albanians in the Presheva valley.
“We will treat some agreements for which we haven’t received any answer from Serbia, and which would take our relation to a more advanced phase. It would also make possible for Albanians and Serbs to feel the positive development. Our relations would have a better character in the Euro-Atlantic future of the region”, Bushati declared.
The Latvian Foreign Minister, whose country will lead the Presidency of the EU this January 2015, confirmed the priority of his country for helping the Balkan countries with further European advancing.
