Germany is convinced that Albania and Northern Macedonia deserve to open the EU accession negotiations, despite the blockage made by France.
During his visit to Skopje, the German Foreign Minister, Haiko Maas, encouraged Northern Macedonia to continue with the reforms and assured his counterpart, Nikola Dimitrov, that they will have the full support of Berlin.
Dimitrov argued that the EU cannot neglect the country after the compromise that was made. He said that despite the good neighboring between Northern Macedonia and Albania, the EU accession negotiations should continue with each country separately, based on merits.
