German expert: “Waste management needs systematic solution”

Bigger investments in Albania are being made in areas with smaller priority.

Bad management of inert materials is considered one of the main pollution factors in our country.

The Director of Projects at the German Association for International Cooperation, Hermann Plumm, told Deutsche Welle that the Albanian government has decided to invest 200 million EUR for construction concessions and incinerators when the country needs modern landfills for inert and urban waste.

According to him, the Albanian government doesn’t have a systematic approach, since there are big investments coming from the government, but on the other hand there are towns like Kamza, Rrogozhina, and Lushnja where people protest against waste that has been dumped without criteria, with companies being authorized by mayors to dump them in rivers.

“This is a bad sign”. I think that the government should be more systematic to create a proper regular system, not a system that resolves something here but does nothing on the other side”, he said.
