Experts say that the government’s initiative to give the inspection of fuel pumps to a private concessionary company goes against the law.
“The law says that this service can be given to a private operator only when the Metrology cannot realize it. The directory has done it for years. This goes against the law”, said the former Vice Director of Metrology, Adrian Batusha.
The inspection is currently being done by the directory. For this service, fuel companies pay 14,000 a year for every pump, money that goes to the state budget. But two weeks earlier, the government suddenly decided to take this million-EUR business to private operators.
“It damages the public’s interests and there is no guarantee that it will defend the consumer’s requests”, Batusha declared.
The government has given 10 points to the Noa Control company, which has made an unsolicited bid for the concession. The bid was not made public, same as the reasons why the government is giving this service to private operators.
This is the third private tax that the government is charging to citizens. The first ones are the marking and scanning fee, money paid by citizens through the oil price. Rather than going to the state budget, this money is deviated to private operators through concessions.
