The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, declared that he
is following closely the political development s in Albania, especially
the presidential election process.
In an interview for Top Channel, Mr. Fule appealed the Albanian political class to act with responsibility.
TCH: After the deadline of May 24th, Albania consumed the first presidential election round. Are following the developments and are you aware of the parties’ stances while you reiterate the message and Albania keeps failing with the deadlines?
Stefan Fule, EU Commissioner for Enlargement:
“Certainly, we are following the developments in Albania, especially about the presidential election issue. I am aware how important May 24th is and I know what happened and what did not happen on My 30th.
I am also very clear about what I said when I visited Tirana a few time ago, that if there will be no final agreement before May 24th for the November Package, it could turn into a problem, rather than a solution.
It is up only to the political parties in Albania, the majority and the opposition, to stop this matter from turning into part of the problem. It is up to them to give the results for finding a president in full accordance with the Constitutional Spirit.
Important commitments were made during my last visit in Albania, and I believe that the politicians and the political parties will make everything possible for giving results that stand to these commitments.
I am ready to give any kind of help. I have asked the General Director for Enlargement to guarantee if there is something that we can do in order to help overcoming the last milestone over the November Package agreement, so that all chances can be used for finding a real solution”.
