After failing to conclude the electoral and parliamentary reforms before
May 24th, when the presidential election started, the commissioner for
enlargement, Stefan Fule, sent a confidential letter to Prime Minister
Sali Berisha and the opposition leader, Edi Rama.
The letter was sent yesterday and it is still unknown if it has arrived in the destination, because it hasn’t been confirmed by the respective office in Tirana. But Top Channel sources in Brussels confirm that the messages are similar to those randomly used recently by the Commissioner for Enlargement, so that Albania can increase the real chances for receiving the candidate status this autumn.
“The consensual spirit and dialogue must continue between the parties, in order to close successfully and without delays the electoral and parliamentary reform, and for the presidential election”, Top Channel sources declared.
According to the same sources, the letter mentions the visit of the General Director for Enlargement, Stefano Sannino, who is expected to arrive in Tirana on June 7th, after the second round and on the verge of the third round for the presidential election, if this process will not be closed yet.
Commissioner Fule warned several times that the failure to conclude the November Agreement before May 24th could turn into a part of the problem, rather than the solution for the status.
“Brussels’ desire has been and remains to have a quick solution for the President, according to the Constitutional spirit. It is up to the Albanian political parties to make it possible and overcome this situation, and not create additional problems. We would want Mr.Sanino to find Tirana with the new president, so that the parties can commit and close the electoral reform and everything that is related with the elections”, the letter says, according to Top Channel sources.
As Commissioner Fule confirmed in his declarations two days ago, the arrival of Stefano Sanino in Tirana is the next effort of the Commission to see how they can help the parties to close the issues that have remained suspended for the electoral and parliamentary reforms.
