After the inter-government conference that signed the official opening
of the EU negotiations with Montenegro in Brussels, the Commissioner for
Enlargement, Stefan Fule, reacted also about the developments in
Albania. Asked by Top Channel if the presidential election has fulfilled
the EU expectancies, Fule declared:
Stefan Fule, EU Commissioner for enlargement:
The presidential elections belong to the past. Now we have a President. We congratulated him and we are ready to work with him. You are right when you remind us that Albania has an ambitious agenda with the EU. I hope that the president and all political forces will mobilize their efforts to fulfill the key criteria, especially the list of the expected results. The clock can be heard as it is ticking away now, and the tasks are challenging. I mentioned Albania with my entire trust that the Albanian political forces and citizens would bring results. I don’t think that it would be better for Albania or for the entire region if another year will be lost. Hence, we are waiting with great hopes the progress for the key criteria and the November package.
The electoral and parliamentary reform conclusion and the handing over of the results for the 12 key priorities are the conditions that our country must fulfill until September, when the Commission’s progress report starts.
