Fuel prices have increased with 3.3% during the second trimester of this year, according to the Bank of Albania. The highest growth was in June, with 5.6%.
The Central Bank says that the local market price hike was influenced by the world market. But another fact is that fuel prices get higher in Albania for every summer season.
Albania also has a high fiscal burden on fuels. For every litre of oil that is sold in the market, the Albanian government collects 37 ALL in excise, 27 ALL of the circulation tax, 3 ALL carbon tax, and 7-10 ALL of the relicensing tax.
Besides government taxes, there are two other fees which go to private concessionaires. And all of this is without VAT, which is 20% of the total, or 30 ALL per litre.
One litre of oil in Tirana is sold for 180 ALL, 110 ALL of which are taxes.
