The French ambassador who has newly arrived in Albania, Bernard
Fitoussi, gave his first political declarations from Elbasan. He noted
the differences between the majority and the opposition, and said that
only dictatorships have a country without opposition.

“I told Mayor Sejdini something that looks essential to me. The Albanian people must be proud of their country, because after 25 years they crossed an extraordinary path, and certainly, there are difficulties. But there is still courage to get mobilized. By what I have seen, I am very optimistic. Certainly that there are differences between the majority and the opposition, but the only countries without opposition are dictatorships”, Bernard Fitoussi declared.

Although he has been in Albania only for a few weeks, the French ambassador analyzed the situation of our country by noting the long path that politics has ahead for fulfilling the key reforms.

“There are some difficult reforms that need to be fulfilled, such as the judiciary, the territorial reform, the public administration reform, the fight against corruption and organized crime. I see a clear energy in Albania and I admire it. In France they say that you can see a glass half empty or half full. He Albanian political parties must deliver what they have in the glass, but I see that it is getting full”, the Ambassador declared.

The first visit outside Tirana of the French Ambassador was held in Elbasan, where he visited the premises of L’Alliance Française.
