Albania has not marked any progress in the democracy scale, as compared to one year ago.
Freedom House gives Albania 4.14 out of 7, same as last year, while Kosovo has small progress. Montenegro has had a better ranking.
The evaluation includes the electoral process, civil society, independent media, national democratic governing, local government, legal structures, independent judiciary and corruption scale.
“In 2016, Albania was in a crosswalk, forced to chose between the inherited corruption and organized crime, or make a radical detachment and go up to the level aspired by their people, for a country that fulfils the EU standards”
“On Muly 22nd, after 18 months of intensive technical work and difficult political negotiations, the Albanian Parliament voted a series of constitutional amends for the judiciary reform”, reminds the US human rights organization.
The report also mentions the cannabis issue. “Despite the police operations, the drug traffickers extended plantations throughout the country, taking advantage of the poverty and corrupted officials”.
