Fraudulent profits with tax increase

Fuel and cigarette merchants have used the warning for increased taxes to make illegal profits by damaging consumers.

Top Channel has found out the official data from the Directory of Customs, which prove that by the end of the past year, the imports of fuels and cigarettes have increased far from the normal trend.

According to the data, only in December were imported 20.000 tons of fuels more than the same month of one year ago. This quantity entered with the old taxes and will be sold after January 1st with the pretext of new taxes.

But fuels are not the only case. Abuse in cigarettes was even stronger. The data show that only in December, 240 tons have been imported more than the same period of last year, with an increase of 75%.

This means that more than 12 million cigarette packs will be sold with the argument of the new tax, when they were bought under the old tax.

Only for this month, the tax evasion mounts up to 2.4 million USD and even more, if calculated for the three past months altogether.

But this is not the only abuse. Merchants have increased the cigarette prices twice more than the added tax, and this started months before the new taxes entered in effect.

This brings the abuse to millions of USD, which should end up in the state budget and allow the government to spend more for hospitals and environment, but that in fact has gone as profit to gross traders.
