France also confirmed today that Albania will have no other conditions,
and that the Vetting Law is important for starting the EU accession
negotiations.
Harlem Desir, State Secretary at the French Government, said that his country will support Albania in the EU accession path. Desir visited Tirana for the inauguration ceremony of the Regional Office for Youth.
TCH: What will be the stance of France regarding Albania? Will they support a positive recommendation for the EU?
Harlem Desir: Albania has done a good and difficult job with the justice reform. We will pay attention on the implementation of this reform, starting from the next year. Based on the progress made so far, we will be able to define our stance regarding Albania’s accession negotiations. The European Commission issued a positive report about Albania’s progress with the reforms and the implementation of five priorities set by the EU. Now we need to see further steps with the implementation of the Justice Reform, the Vetting Law that assesses the image of judges and prosecutors. France and other EU countries will always support Albania and will help them implement the justice reform.
The French official confirmed there are no further conditions that could put obstacles to Albania’s negotiations.
