Former Road Authority Directors remain in prison; Xhika investigated by Serious Crimes

The Court of Elbasan ruled to leave in prison the two former Road Authority Directors, Dashamir Xhika and Andi Toma, who for abuse with the Elbasan-Gjinar road construction.

Xhika and Toma had requested for their judge to be changed, be she concluded the session, the second part behind closed doors.

The defence lawyers said this was a political trial, and that their clients pose no danger and cannot contaminate the evidence if they are left free. The former Minister of Transportation, Edmond Haxhinasto, from the Socialist Movement for Integration, was present in the court room.

The Court of Serious Crimes, for a different case from the one in Elbasan, decided to leave Dashamir Xhika in prison. He is accused of power abuse in cooperation with other persons, who are also detained.

The Head of the Parliamentary Group for the Socialist Movement for Integration reacted about the Court of Serious Crimes’ decision, saying it is now being controlled by the Prime Minister, ending the trust of Albanian people to justice.
