The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime decided to release Jamarbër Malltezi from prison, softening the measure from ” arrest in prison ” to “house arrest” amid accusations of corruption for the privatization of properties in Tirana.

While for the former prime minister Sali Berisha there is no change of obligation to appear measure, said Top Channel’s Anila Hoxha sources, present at the session.

Berisha’s lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, said after the session that the battle for this issue will be long.

“Maltezi was placed under house arrest. This issue remains a political one, it is impossible for such issues to be filed within one working day and the criminal proceedings to be registered. Yesterday’s trial was characterized by a wooden language by the prosecution. Berisha is in no danger of leaving the country as he is in parliament twice a week”, said Gjokutaj.

According to the decision of the Special Appeal, Malltezi is ordered not to leave his apartment and not to communicate with other people except those who live with him.

Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his son-in-law Jamarber Maltezi are being investigated for the privatization of the former “Partizani” Sports Complex, but the former says that he does not recognize the decision of the special court for “obligation to appear” and has not appeared there, despite the announcements from Special Prosecutor’s Office.
