24 years ago, on February 20th, protesters toppled the statue of the
Albanian former communist dictator, Enver Hoxha. On this special day,
the former political prisoners handed over to the Parliament a petition
with 1000 signatures for opening the Secret Service files.

“Today, on February 20th, the day when the statue of Enver Hoxha was toppled, we are closing our petition and will send it to the Albanian Parliament with 1000 signatures. I am one of the initiators for opening the communist files based on the German model. Half-done laws will only make it easier for the highest structures of the former Labor Party and Secret Service, starting from the judiciary system and then to the education system, the Parliament and everything else”, declared Agron Tufa, the Chief Director of the institution of former political prisoners.

Tufa declared that the history books of Albanian students should also change.

The request for opening the Secret Service files was followed by the promotion of 12 books which show the crimes committed during the communist dictatorship.
