17 former political prisoners who have been part of a hunger strike for
the past three days, declared that their requests are not related only
to the compensation, but they also have some political requests.
The leader of the strike, Fatmir Hoxha, declared that he has not received any payment, and that their main request is related to opening the files of the communist government, condemning the figure of Enver Hoxha, and paying the compensation within two years for all former political prisoners.
“I demand this government to open the files of the communits government. The compensation is ridiculous. My father died interned”, Hoxha declared.
“The children of the former political prisoners should return to their jobs. They have been fired unfairly. The compensation has been distributed with one installment to some, two installments to others, and some haven’t received anything at all”, another one declared.
The Minister of Social Welfare, Erion Veliaj, distributed the first installment for 80 former political prisoners and declared that the head of the strike, Fatmir Hoxha, has received all three installments.
“Fatmir Hoxha, who leads this strike, not only admits he hasn’t been for any single day In prison, but he has received two installments from the Reifeissen Bank. I have the bank document and he has received the entire payment, not with eight installments as anyone else. Why? Because he worked for the government. Hoxha not only has taken the properties that belonged to the former prisoners, not only has been reported several times at court, but has a criminal report against him for stealing the property of the blood of the former prisoners. How can this person stay in that hunger strike?”, Veliaj declared.
The new draft law gives priority to the compensation of the former political prisoners who are alive and first generation of heirs, who are minors when this law entered in act.
According to this law, every annual fund is divided in 70% for the compensation of people who are part of the prioritary category, and 30% for the heirs of the former political prisoners.
