Former minister is sentenced to 5.8 years in prison for corruption with the incinerators, his second is found innocent

In the gigantic affair of corruption with urban waste incinerators, former environment minister Lefter Koka was found guilty by the Special Court in the incinerator of Fier and the incinerator of Elbasan.

For the crimes of money laundering and corruption, he was sentenced to 5 years and 8 months in prison, as well as 5 years of disqualification from exercising public functions. He was found not guilty of abuse of office.

In the context of this case, Lefter Koka’s shares from the winery are confiscated according to the value of the corruption committed, along with the companies “Pivot” and “Silvi”.

Seizures against his apartments were abolished. The former general secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Alqi Blako, was deemed innocent by the court and his immediate release was ordered, in case he is not held for another criminal offense, the judicial body said.

Because he was sentenced for abuse of office in the Fier file with 2 years and 8 months of imprisonment, it is up to the lawyers to calculate the time when the former official should seek freedom, the court said.

The court gave sentences fot two other defendants Pëllumb Abeshi and Serafin Papa, who were convicted for abuse of office.

Klodian Zoto was sentenced to 6.8 years in prison and Mirel Mërtiri received the same sentence, while Stela Gugallja was sentenced to 4.8 years in prison.

On the other hand, the companies “Albtek Energy” sh.p.k. and “Integrated Technology Services” have been confiscated and passed in favor of the state, while the seizure was lifted for the two commercial companies “J.P.V.” of “Bio Blend Fruit”.
