The former Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri, declared through a
Facebook post that the Socialist Party will enter local elections in
Kavaja without the Socialist Movement for Integration.
“We will respect the sovereign right of the Albanian people to chose the best offer, in Kavaja on May 7th and for all of Albania on June 18th”, Tahiri said.
“Despite the internal debates and public attacks, the Socialist Movement for Integration ahs supported the reforms and has cooperated with the Socialist Party without violating the agreement we have with our 1 million voters. But I have to say today, as political leader of the Socialist Party for the Tirana District, that the declarations of the SMI for not being part of the Kavaja elections, and that central elections would be destructive without the return of the Democratic Party, are not helping anyone. According to the SMI, we should cancel the elections of Kavaja just because they are not being held inside the protest tent? Should we, the Socialist Party, stop participating in these elections just because the Socialist Movement shares the same opinion with the Democratic Party? Or should we feel guilty about the imaginary farce of participating in elections, when the real farce is not participating?”, Tahiri wrote.
“With or without the SMI, we will respect the sovereign right of the Albanian people to choose the better offer. In Kavaja, on May 7th, and throughout all of Albania on June 18th. That’s why we will enter the elections and win them, even alone”, Tahiri added.
