After one month in house arrest, the former Governor of the Bank of
Albania, Ardian Fullani, was left free by the Court until trial. He he
bound to appear to authorities every Monday.
Prosecutor Madrid Kullolli from the Prosecution General was unable to convince the Supreme Court about Fullani’s dangers to the society, or even argue why the arrest measure given from the Supreme Court was necessary.
When asked by Judge Shkelzen Selimi how Fullani abused with his power he reacted with: “I refuse to answer”.
Fullani’s lawyer declared that the Prosecution is contradictory, since once they say that the 15 defendants have abused with their power and have not implemented the acts given by Governor Fullani, and on the other hand they accuse Fullani of not issuing orders.
By the end of the process, Fullani’s lawer said that he will ask the court to acquit him.
“We will continue with the process and seek justice until the end. Our hope and conviction is to take what we are entitled to”, said Maks Haxhia, Fullani’s defensive lawyer.
The former Chief Inspector of the Bank of Albania, Elivar Golemi, was also set free with the obligation to appear in court. The lawyers said that Golemi had never been summoned by the Supervisory Council to report and that she is not a social threat.
“The Court took a decision that corrected the mistakes of these judges, and rightfully ordered Golemi’s freedom because the arrest measure was not compatible with her personality and danger”, declared lawyer Fatos Shanaj.
On November 20th, Martin Deda, Judge of Tirana, will open the criminal process against 15 defendants who are accused of power abuse. The Prosecution claims that with their failure to react they have allowed Ardian Bitraj to steal around 7 million USD at the Treasury Department.
