What so far has been considered as the exploitation without criteria of our forests, now can be called an open war to nature.
Although the Albanian authorities have not licensed any company to exploit the communal forests in Devoll, it seems that no one has the strength to stop this illegal activity.
A truck loaded with logs was filmed in the Miras-Bilisht road. Not only trees are cut in the open, but they don’t seem to take the trouble and hide the transportation. That’s because during their entire course of transportation, there is no representative of the Albanian authorities to stop this from happening.
The massive deforestation have been reported often by the media, but no one has tried to stop this phenomenon, behind which hide large profits for the abusers. The damage is spreading each day more in the southeastern region.
“None of these companies that are exploiting the woods have any agreement or license with the Forest Service Directory or other authorities that own these forests”, declared Luan Nushi, director of the Forest Service in Devoll.
To protect the forests, the Albanian government decided to pass its ownership to the commune, so that they can use them for the needs of their own residents.
But the poor population of this area profits nothing, and they are even the ones who get fined by the Forest Police, if they are caught cutting heating wood in the forest.
The massive massacre caused by these companies starts from Dardha, Vithkuq and continues in Devoll. While the state agencies blame each other, the criminal activity continues freely.
