2017 doesn’t seem a positive year for Balkan, which seems to be losing stability.
In an interview for “Koha Ditore”, the Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, mentioned once again that the EU needs to pay more attention to the region.
The Foreign Minister analyzed the general situation, starting from the prolonged crisis in Macedonia, which, according to him, comes after several regulations of democracy were not applied, and also due to the weak functioning of institutions.
Bushati sees the stalemate in Montenegro a conflict between the Euro Atlantic vision and the forces that are trying to put this state under forces which see NATO as a threat. The situation in Bosnia is even more difficult, since the “Dayton” platform, which saved the country from blood-shed, is not seen as a state-forming one.
Youth in Serbia seems to be rising against the powerful domination of President Vucic, and after that, Bushati speaks about Kosovo and Albania.
“We hope that the early elections will help Kosovo find a solution for all delicate matters. As for the situation in Albania, the core of this crisis is the fear from the judiciary reform, a process which affects other parts of the public life”, Bushati said.
When asked about the role of Russia in the region, the Foreign Minister said that everyone prefers normal relations with Russia, in order to explore the mutual interest areas, but there are many other things with which Tirana doesn’t agree. Bushati reminded how Moscow always tries to relate the difficulties of the region with what they call “meddling of the EU with their internal matters”.
