Officials in Athens have reacted a few hours after Top Channel published
that the Commissioner for EU Enlargement, Johanes Hahn, declared that
the Cham Case was a topic for discussion between Greece an Albania.

The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, asked the Commissioner to withdraw and correct his declaration, in what can be considered as one of his harshest tones, with a direct and threatening speech. He said that the Commissioner has gone above his competences by intervening in the matters concerning the member countries, opening debates on issues that don’t exist.

The declaration from Athens: “The declaration of Commissioner Johanes Hahn is untrue and unacceptable. As it is known, the Cham matter does not exist. AS such, it has never been accepted as a negotiation object between Greece and Albania. Commissioner Hahn shows that he is not exerting his role and his duty for impartiality, so that we can advance with the joint interest of the EU, as foreseen by article 17 of the Lisbon Convention. He has been asked and he is bound by his institutional role to give immediate and convincing explanations as regards his unacceptable and false declaration that we contested”.
