The Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, met with the High Representative
of Foreign Policy and Security in the EU, Federica Mogherini, and with
the Commissioner of Neighboring Policy and Enlargement Negotiations,
Johannes Hahn.
The press release of the Foreign Ministry said that Bushati updated Mogherini with the state-building reforms, the government’s work in addressing the five key priorities, and the direct impact in the respective areas, especially the business climate and the economy.
Mogherini expressed the support of the EU to the state-building efforts and identified the contribution these reforms can give for a dynamic and efficient progress towards the EU. Mogherini valued the commitment to continue with the justice reform. She valued the proactive and constructive role of Albania in the region, and its foreign policy alignment with the EU.
As for the regional cooperation, Minister Bushati said that the efforts between the Western Balkan countries bring to attention the need for a financial support and the commitment of the EU for consolidating a stable development and fulfill the Berlin Process engagements.
In a meeting with Johannes Hahn, Bushati identified the importance of the EU enlargement policy for the reform progress not only in Albania, but also in the other countries of the region, as a political and geo-strategic project. He underlined that the EU enlargement policy is an instrument that encourages modernization, democratization and stabilization of the countries in the region.
After updating Commissioner Hahn with the progress of the reforms undertaken in Albania, mainly for the rule of law, Bushati underlined the readiness of the country to enter the accession negotiations.
Commissioner Hahn valued the stabilizing and dynamic role of Albania in the region and expressed his trust that the commitments undertaken at the Berlin Process will enable a better connection between the Balkan countries.
As for the integration agenda, Commissioner Hahn will visit Tirana by the end of March for the next high-level dialogue meeting between the EU and Albania.
He will also participate at meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Western Balkan, which will be organized in Tirana by initiative of our government.
