The Bank of Albania reported that foreign companies, during the January-March period, invested 283 million EUR in the Albanian economy or 108 million EUR more than the first trimester of 2017.
Historic data show that this is the highest level of direct foreign investments registered during the first trimester since 2008.
The Bank has not published detailed data about what sector where the money invested in, but in the past years, most of the investments coming from abroad, 60%, were focused on the energy market.
The construction of the TAP pipeline and the Devoll cascade has raised concerns that foreign investments could get slower, starting from this year. According to the Bank, the lower investment level is expected to reduce the economic growth at 3.6% for 2018, from 3.9% that it used to be a year ago.
