The Court of Korce has started implementing the project “Justice without
Delay”. The US Ambassador, who was present in this ceremony, expressed
concern about the high level of delay that justice has today, and
underlined that the development of the judiciary system is delayed due
to irresponsibility.
“I have been staying in Albania for the past four years, and I have been surprised in many cases for good and for bad. I am speaking about the negative aspect, which includes the difficulties Albanians have to face each day as they become part of the judiciary system. We see the delays, the level in which the justice is delayed to Albanians. This makes me feel angry and feel bad for the Albanian people, because the welfare of this people is important for me and the USA. The active management of the judiciary requires dedication of judges and cooperation of other actors. Those who leave this dedication should be held accountable in front of everyone and of all legal means. This is the key that has stopped the judiciary progress in Albania. Now, in 2014, there are more countries where the abusers can hide, but you can hold them responsible”, Arvizu declared.
The ambassador of the OSCE presence in Albania, Florion Raunig, underlined that the delayed processes are damaging the justice in Albania, by reflecting their consequences on the Albanian people.
The Minister of Justice, Nasip Naco, appealed judges to not delay trials and take an active role by taking all measures that could minimize delays.
President Bujar NIshani also said that the Albanian judiciary system should have the support of all actors, to give it the right efficiency: “I have undertaken an initiative for organizing a discussion table about the judiciary reform in Albania on October 6th”.
In this meeting was also present the President of the Supreme Court, Xhezair Zaganjori, who said that the judiciary has problems with the fight against corruption and with increasing performance.
