After the decision taken by the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, for
not allowing the Syrian chemical weapons in Albania, the Minister of
Welfare and Social Matters, Erion Veliaj, turned this attention to the
environmental and financial situation of Albania.
“The Prime Minister took a right decision, which respected the correct relations and all negotiations with our partner, but that decision was for the interests of the Albanian people, for everything that we have promised, so that no one should feel threatened about their health”, Veliaj declared.
There are 31 polluted areas throughout the country, which require huge investments. But there are also polluted areas with wastes. Veliaj asked the hundreds of thousands of Albanians who participated in the peaceful protest against the chemical weapons to become an active part on November 22nd for cleaning Albania.
“Albania today is calmer and more clarified, but not cleaner. We have 31 polluted areas in our country which constantly cause diseases. In the past 23 years we have had many people dying due to pollution, and cleaning them is a costly operation and Albania doesn’t have the financial means to clean it. This is the reason why we invite every Albanian citizen today, those who protested yesterday and to those parents who established a new protest standard, regardless of their political convictions, to unite on November 22nd for the initiative “Cleaning Albania in one day”, Veliaj declared.
“Every Parliament Member will be in his electoral area on November 22nd to clean Albania. But if all citizens join, we will have a cleaner Albania”, Veliaj declared.
