The virus circulating our country right now is named AH3N2. It had not
affected Albania for years, that’s why the population is not protected,
immunity wise. This explains why it has spread so quickly, doctors say.
“Not only in Albania, but throughout Europe, there was an increasing tendency during the first week of December. We are on the verge of an epidemic, but there is not enough data to raise alarms. However, Tirana health centers have been working even weekends since December 20th”, said the Health Minister, Ilir Beqaj.
Hospitals and clinics show a high flux of patients, mostly in the pediatric and infective hospitals.
Doctors appeal citizens to be careful and take measures, especially chronic patients, who could face other problems after this flu.
10 Tirana’s Health Centers receive 570 visits each day, in average. Arjan Harxhi, Chief of the Infective Diseases Department, said that they may bring on more personnel and increase the number of beds.
