The rains of this Tuesday caused the Tirana river to flood the areas
around. The Tresh area, near Kamza, has registered more damages than
others. More than 60 buildings have been flooded and their total number
goes up to hundreds.
The water level in some places reached two meters, and some of the residents even risked their lives. They have been obliged to wait on rooftops until help arrived.
The military rushed to help the residents of the area, and the Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli inspected the situation closely.
“There is a problem with the fact that many constructions have been built close to the riverbed, and rains have made it worse. The army and police are year to help the citizens. They will initially regulate women and children, and then damages will be calculated. We are here with the prefect of the district. I think that there will be a team that will assess the damage and then there will be a compensation. These citizens have built their homes in the wrong places, but this doesn’t mean that we will not take the necessary measures for opening the riverbed that has been closed due to the inert materials”, Kodheli declared.
Many residents addressed to the government for compensation, while they are cleaning their homes with the help of the military.
“The government must help our children, whom I don’t know how I will feed today”, a resident says.
“The government must help us, because our lives are over with this situation”, another one declared.
The Mayor of Tirana declared that more than 1000 houses have been affected by the rains, and that there are huge material damages. He asked cooperation from the central government.
“We need coordination with the central government institutions to increase the working force that will he;p cleaning the area and stabilize the basic supplies, mainly the drinking water. This kind of flood takes place once in 20 years. The damages are high and they need to be answered”, Basha declared.
The Deputy Minister of Interior, when asked by Top Channel about the claims of the residents, declared that they will make all verifications.
The area has no electricity since all power station are flooded.
Hundreds of flooded houses in Paskuqan
Meanwhile, hundreds of houses have been flooded toady in Paskuqan, with residents saying that the water level has reached two meters.
“I had just renewed my entire kitchen appliances and they were destroyed. Water reached two meters”, one resident declared.
Another one says that every house has been destroyed and that now he fears the future.
River water mixed with sewage has flooded the Paskuqan school premises.
“The fund for fixing the collector has been given three times, but there has been no result yet”, another Paskuqan resident says.
