Floods cause severe damages

48 hours after the flood, hundreds of families in the suburbs of Tirana are still living in difficult conditions.

The Tirana River water has flooded 694 houses and 1000 families that live in the Municipal Unit 11 of the Albanian capital, by also damaging 50 businesses.

“We have had heavy rains even before, but the river has never went over its bed. Our businesses that we built through a lot of ordeals have been severely damaged”, the residents say.

They are looking for financial help from the state, so that they can guarantee the minimal living conditions.

“We don’t have money to buy anything to fix our houses. We are looking for help, because we are in a very difficult situation”, the residents say.

Mayor Lulzim Basha met with the flooded families, and asked the government to declare the state of emergency in this area, and to cooperate by helping the residents financially.

“We have established eight groups for evaluating the damages. I hope that the local governing units will turn their eyes to this area. First of all by declaring the partial state of emergency, and secondly, by giving a modest help so that they can continue their lives, at least with more acceptable parameters”, Basha declared.
