Fleckenstein: “Justice reform”, not with elections. “Businessman” politicians are against it.

“Mr.Rama has been clear for some time. He has wanted to progress, since after the final recommendation of the Venice Commission. I have the same impression for Mr.Basha, but, certainly, there are some points for which they don’t agree and which require compromise. I asked both leaders to work together and find a way to reach joint conclusions”, Fleckenstein said.

Should the justice reform be conditioned with the electoral reform, as the opposition requested a few days ago?

“I agree that both are very important, but I don’t support the idea of their relation. My request for the opposition is to trust us. We will support you for the electoral reform, but don’t connect many things now together, because in the end we will have nothing on time”, he continued.

When in Shkoder, Knut Fleckenstein spoke about people who create obstacles for the justice reform. But who are they?

“There are a few people that are benefiting from this system. They become richer each day, because they know how to behave with this system, they know who to pay”, declared the rapporteur for Albania.

TCH: Are these people politicians?

Knut Fleckenstein: I don’t know. I think they are politicians. Let’s call them like that. I hope and I feel that politicians will follow the 90% and not the 1% that is getting richer each day.

He used the same argument when asked about how certain he is, from 1 to 10, that the reform will pass within June.

Knut Fleckenstein: I know that more than 90% of the Albanian people want this reform. I cannot imagine that there are politicians in our country who don’t want to follow such a majority. And I think the answer is 8 or 9.

TCH : No 19?

Knut Fleckenstein: I am always a little skeptical, but 8-9 is a good result.
