The Rapporteur for Albania at the Parliament of Europe, Knut
Fleckenstein, commented about the elections in Albania and said that
Sunday was a good day for our country. As for the negotiations, he said
that the process is yet to finish and no conclusion can be given by now.
Knut Fleckenstein: It was a generally good day for Albania. The election rules were well defined. There may have been mistakes, as ODIHR said. Now we will see the result.
TCH: Did Albania pass the test for the accession negotiations?
Knut Fleckenstein: I hope so. This question can have an answer only by the end. It is related with how the accusations are treated so far, what the OSCE-ODIHR say on the changes that need to be made or the necessary corrections. I believe there is a better options for fulfilling formally what has been mentioned.
TCH: Will you visit Tirana this September?
Knut Fleckenstein: By the end of September or by early October.
TCH: What will the key message be?
Knut Fleckenstein: “Include the civil society as much as possible in this process, because the path to the EU is not only for politicians, but also for the civil society and citizens. They are the ones who should feel this is the right path. That’s why we will not meet only with politicians, but also with the Chamber of Commerce, universities and so on.
