Around 20 international line buses and 700 passengers were blocked today at the Kakavija border checkpoint in Gjirokaster.
This happened after the drivers and buses of the Ktel company in Greece at blocked the road, claiming that the Albanian bus lines are not licensed and have no standards, a fact that is rejected categorically by the Albanian bus line owners.
They say that they have the respective documentation from the ministries of both countries and that this situation is created only for blocking the Albanian buses, so that the Greek ones can have more work.
This unusual situation has obliged the citizens to wait for five hours before passing the Albanian customs, including elders, women and children.
The border authorities met the Greek homologues who declared that this anomaly is not created by the Greek Police or Customs, but the drivers of the Greek bus line who had blocked the road and allowed the passage only of private vehicles and pedestrians.
“We met the Greek counterparts and the police took measures for unblocking the road”, declared Klemen Lena, commander of the Kakavija border checkpoint.
The buses were allowed to enter only at noon. The Police intervened and the situation was normalized at 13:00.
