The Minister of Agriculture, Edmond Panariti, wrote on his Facebook profile that the fishing vessels in Albania have not been tracked for the past nine months, due to the missing GIS signal of the Bluebox system. The cause for this is that the contracted firm has not been paid.
“This compromises our national security by increasing the risk of illegal traffic, including that of narcotics, with vessels that are not tracked and not discovered. Secondly, it causes tax evasion, since the economic activity is not reported. This puts us in deep economic disadvantage and risks funding from the EU. Don’t forget that we are among the first countries that signed an agreement for stopping illegal traffics in ports, and our strategic partners expect results, not words”, Panariti declared.
