Ilia Kareli killed a prison guard and then died of internal injuries
caused by a heavy beating. Eight of 15 Nigrita Prison guards who are
accused for his death, were summoned this Saturday at the Serra Court
for giving their declarations in front of judge Georgia Toutoutzi.
They asked to postpone the decaration until Monday, so that their defensive lawyers can read the accusations carefully and prepare the defense. The seven other guardians will be summoned on Wednesday.
The Nigrita Prison Director is not included in the list. He is being accused of violating rules for defending the defendants, and for failing to report a crime.
According to the information secured by Top Channel, all guards are still working normally in the Nigrita prison, since no measure has been taken, not even a temporary suspension.
A team mad of leaders from the Greek Prison Guard Union has arrived today in Serres to meet their colleagues.
The details of the Prosecution’s indictment are not clear yet. Only a few parts of the coroner’s report have been published on the Greek press, showing that the Albanian 42 year old has died due to a beating that has continued for three days, after he killed a Malandrino prison guard.
