The task force that is following the national plan against cannabis plantation reported for the first semester of this year.

According to the Chief of Police, the number of cannabis plants is 318 times smaller, compared to the same period of 2016.

“In six months we identified 152 authors for cannabis plantation. We destroyed 36290 plants, 23.000 of which were new while others were from one year ago. 71 local employees were charged for power abuse and failing to report a crime. Nine of them were arrested”, said the Chief of Police, Haki Cako.

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, appealed for the operation to continue with the same spirit of cooperation, in order to change the situation as soon as possible.

“We must remove large areas in the entire territory and then we shall intervene in remote areas. There should be no mercy with those who violate the law. The data is very encouraging. The cannabis plantation situation has changed. By the end of the season we can bring the cannabis plantation history to an end”, Rama asid.

The Albanian Prime Minister said they are cooperating with the Italian government for other operations against cannabis. The new government will also invest in areas where many people have been lied to and involved in the drug cultivation.

According to Rama, the results seen so far with the fight against this phenomenon are the best answer to the accusations that were made against the State Police during the electoral campaign.
