First public slaughterhouse opened in Tirana, Veliaj: “New standard”

Tirana has inaugurated the first government-run slaughter house for selling meat, which will offer certified products.
Mayor Veliaj said that this investment is directly related to national security, and that now it is time for everyone to take food security seriously.
“This slaughterhouse establishes a new standard. Same as the cleaning sector, in which we have involved a public operator, there are also other sectors in which public institutions are doing a better job than private ones”, Veliaj said.
The Mayor asked private operators to guarantee the same standards and hygiene as the public one in Tirana, and appealed citizens to cooperate with this initiative to raise awareness and guarantee higher food standards.
Tirana has 300 meat trading business units. The veterinarian of the Tirana Municipality will be present at this public slaughterhouse, guaranteeing meet standards with official stamps.
