Firefighters reported today a reactivation of the fire in the pine forest in Peshtan in Fier, in southwest Albania.

Officials told Top Channel that the flames are spreading due to the “gorge type” terrain and strong winds.

According to them, from yesterday’s fire, there was a hearth left, which has been reactivated, causing other hearths.

The director of the fire department of Fier Municipality, Zija Hyka, has affirmed that the situation is very difficult.

“Three firefighting teams are on the ground. Reinforcements are being requested from Patos fire departments. The fire is spreading, approaching the old rural road Fier – Cakran, in the location called “Qafa Shkoza”.

“Initially, help is expected from the colleagues of Patos and if the situation continues the same, help will be requested from the helicopter as the day before”, concluded the fire chief of Fier municipality, Zija Hyka.

The terrain is reported to be difficult as the vehicles cannot get close to the fires. Workers are fighting the flames with water pumps and emergency tools such as picks and shovels.
