The fire departments, army forces and residents of the area were able to
stop the fires that exploded in the suburbs of Berat, keeping the
flames away from the museum area.
But the out of control situation caused many olive trees to get burned for several hours, and the Berat Prefect gathered the Staff of the Civil Emergencies, asking full mobility for keeping the situation under control.
The firefighters and the Drobonik residents fought the flames even during the late hours of the night. The situation was even more concerning for the fact that the area had dispersed ammunition since 1997, and the flames provoked several explosions. The prefect asked the police to find the authors of the fire that endangered many homes, businesses and people’s life, after destroying forests and olive groves.
Meanwhile, in Elbasan appeared another fire, in Griqan, burning many hectares of bushes, endangering the military garrisons that house ammunitions. Sources say that there were sent tow fire engines, one from the army and one from the city of Elbasan.
