Fires burned 1300 ha of forests

More than 1300 hectares of forests were burned during these hot summer
weeks. Specialists from the Forest Directory say that vegetation grew
impressively during spring, which then dried up due the high
temperatures.

These territories go out of control in case of fire.

The phone in the office of Genci Hoxhaj, at the Forest Directory, never cease of ringing with people reporting other fires and asking for help. Hoxhaj says that it is often difficult to intervene for bringing the situation under control.

The Forest Directory has 1000 men and 6 fire engines for protected areas, but these vehicles are not enough and work becomes even more difficult when the heads of the communes stay indifferent to fires in their areas.

“Local administration units are totally indifferent to this phenomenon. I appeal all of them and the residents to engage for putting the fires out, since the situation is very difficult”, Hoxhaj declared.

40 degrees on Thursday

High temperatures make even more difficult the managing of this situation. The Military Meteorological Institute predicts that temperatures on Thursday will rise to at least 40 degrees Celsius, marking the hottest day of August.

Meteorologist Rezarta Xhakollari explains that the temperatures will fall with 3 to 5 degrees only during the next week.

Senior citizens and young children are not to be exposed to the sun during these days and should consume as much liquids as possible.
