Fires burn down famous palm trees, get close to Saint Anthony Church in Laç

A fire in Lushnje got close to two important state institutions. What
caused the fire is unknown, but it burned down 16 palms that were
planted by Harry Fultz in 1926, while inaugurating the first Agriculture
School in Albania.

Several houses were at risk, while witnesses say firefighters were 30 minutes late, which was fatal for the rare palms that were about to become one century old.

Firefighters stopped the fire from taking on the buildings, and justified their delay by saying they were engaged in another fire.

Fires, in the main time, are continuing throughout Albania, getting close even to the famous Saint Anthony church in Lac, which gathers dozens of thousands of pilgrims each year.
