A massive fire has burned over 20 hectares of pine forest in Mallakastër in southwest Albania, causing significant damage.
The fire is reported to have also involved about 1,000 olive roots, two uninhabited houses, one inhabited house, as well as two cattle stables. Due to the serious situation, the General Director of the National Civil Defense Agency, Haki Çako, who arrived in the area, ordered that if necessary, measures should be taken to evacuate the residents.
The intervention of the helicopter has reduced the intensity of the fire, but the wind is reported to ignite new fires.
According to the head of the fire service, Beso Enveri, the terrain was difficult but not only the firefighters, but also residents of the area worked to extinguish the fire.
