Fino: New division in July

03/07/2014 00:00

One day after the opposition presented the platform for the new
territory division of the local government, the chairman of the
Commission, Bashkim Fino, declared for Top Channel that the new division
will be approved in July, and the law for the decentralization of the
local government will pass in autumn.

“The opposition tells us to do the decentralization law in one day, but they didn’t do anything in eight years. This looks like an artificial obstacle. They don’t want to be part of this reform, because there is no sufficient time to finalize this law until July 31st. These options for the territorial reform should be approved within this parliamentary session, and we can discuss the decentralization of the local government in autumn, and pass it within this year”, Fino declared.

But MP Eduard Halimi declared that the opposition has not articulated any postponement of the elections, but they want the new division to be done with the decentralization.

“The territorial reform should serve to the citizens. We need a transparent service, better and more representative. These are the three principles. We have asked for them to sit with us and approve it with consensus, while the majority comes as a maneuver in a deceit that is being done to the public, saying that we have asked to postpone the elections. On behalf of the DP, this is a speculation. The map should not be the first element of the reform. It should serve to the citizens first”, Halimi declared.
