Until September 15th, the state police will continue an international
operation for eliminating planted cannabis in areas that have been
identified not only by air inspections, but also by information received
through the agents and the community.
In an interview for Top Channel, the General Director of the State Police, Artan Didi, declared that 200 parcels have been eliminated so far.
“We started the fight against this phenomenon in the first months of 2014, a moment when the seed is imported from other countries, mainly from the Netherlands. We had all police structures involved. We held awareness campaigns and met with the local government. This is an activity of the police that has spread throughout the country. The focus was on Lazarat, that turned into a symbol of this phenomenon. A symbol of not only the cultivation, but also of going against the state. From June 1st to July 31st there have been 217 cases identified, and 103 authors that have been prosecuted”, declared the Head of the State police, Artan Didi.
But what is the most problematic map?
“There are areas with a considerable amount of narcotics in the Kruje Mountains, in the Tirana mountains and the area that connects Mat, Kruja and Tirana. There is also the Dukagjin mountains and the Vlore river area, together with the Kurvelesh and the Tepelena mountains. It has been difficult for the police to keep his territory under control due to the lack of logistics and the harsh terrain”, Didi declared.
