Two weeks before the election, Top Channel’s investigative program “Fiks
Fare” proved that the Democratic Party candidates try to buy Tirana
voters with food packages.
“Fiks Fare” brought images showing how the Democratic Party’s candidate staff in Tirana was distributing food from a paint shop.
The journalists were able to film candidate Gazmend Dibra inside the shop, and although the distribution was made very subtly, journalists were able to find some of the residents who received food.
In exchange for their vote to the Democratic Party, these residents had received 2-3 kilograms of oil, 3 kg of flour, 3 kg of rice, 3 kg of pasta.
The food can be given only to those people who are registered as Democratic Party voters and who promise to vote for Sali Berisha’s party.
Although in economic need, many of these residents feel offended for the way how food is being distributed in exchange of vote.
In a conversation with Top Channel, residents say that this food is supposed to be given for free to citizens in need, as public aid, but the Democratic Party candidate is distributing it selectively for his personal need.
