The Interior Inspection Service has arrested the Chief of the Anti-Narcotics Sector at the Fier Police, Dritan Zagani.
An announcement of the Ministry of Interior says that his arrest came after a Fier Court verdict, since Zagani is suspected of power abuse.
For this operation, the Interior Inspection Service has arrested three specialists of the Anti Narcotics sector in Fier. The suspects are Bledar Naci, Benard Fejza and Gramoz Fasko. These arrests were made after a Court of Fier decision.
The investigations against the Fier Police started with the procedures of hitting a drug criminal group. The Prosecution of Serious Crimes declared that investigations showed that the five citizens are part of a group that traffics narcotics from Lazarat to Italy. One ton of drug, prepared by them, has been seized by the Vlore Police in November 2013, ready to be sent to Italy.
The Prosecution of Serious Crimes declared that the investigations showed that one of them had been communicating often with the Head of the Anti-Traffic in the Fier Police, Dritan Zagani, informing him about the movements of the group. The latter, based on the information taken on this illegal method, organized a “routine” operation in January 2014, in which they blocked 100 kg of cannabis sativa inside a vehicle at the Fier-Vlore axis, during a routine operation. This action was not coordinated with the State Police and the Prosecution of Serious Crimes, and affected negatively another operation that was connected to this load. The authorities were waiting to find out the final destination before intervening.
The Prosecution of Serious Crimes underlines that the people who were transporting this drug quantity had communicated with their source at the Police, Zagani, since they considered him his collaborator.
According to the investigations, the Head of Antidrugs in Fier has violated the law and has cooperated with his source. He needed to regulate his activity regarding article 294/a of the Criminal Procedure. Zagani should have informed the Prosecution of Serious Crimes in Tirana with the respective authorities and documentation.
The Prosecution of Serious Crimes underlines that Zagani was reporting about the operation to a foreign citizen, violating the code of ethics and the investigative secrecy. He speaks about details that were not presented at his supervisors and are not presented in any document signed by him. The communication with this citizen, without any authorization from the state authorities, make a severe violation of his duty as a police officer.
