The Public Health directory is inspecting all Fast Food services and
restaurants in Albania, after finding 20 fast food stores in Tirana with
dangerous bacteria in the potatoes, such as mosses remains and “E-Coli”
bacteria.
“We have inspected 200 fast-food shops and we have received 100 oil samples, mayonnaise and meat. There were some cases with large amounts of bacteria in the potatoes that are sold without labels”, declared Mhill Gjecaj, director of the Public Health Directory.
According to the inspectors, these potatoes were prepared in house conditions and were sold cheaper. Now that the business is blocked, no fast-food has anymore bacteria infested potatoes.
But another problem with the fast foods is the fact that they use the cooking oil several times, which increases the dangers of cancerous diseases.
Unconfirmed sources say that the oil, after it is used several times in fast foods, is bought by bread bakeries.
The Albanian consumer is exposed to a series of dangers. The National Food agency must control the quality of food products. The Tirana Municipality has established the Consumer Defense Agency, but these structures do not seem to function.
