In mid August 2010, a murder in Tirana returned to the public conscience
the histories of gangs that used to roam freely around Albania.

The mafia-style execution of Franc Konomi opened once again one of the most voluminous files at the Tirana Police and Prosecution, the one that has the title “The Men of Bardhyl Street”.

Inside there are Tirana’s crime histories, such as the conflict of Gaz Muca and Naim Zyberi gang. The victims were numerous.

The first gangsters appeared in the early ‘90s, and they had nothing similar to the modern organized crime.

For these gangsters it was enough to beat, steal and go around neighbourhoods with rare cars and motorcycles.

Rarely these gang leaders were arrested by the police, because in most of the cases their lives had a short end. They were killed by their own colleagues.

Dritan Dajti’s arrest cost the life of four police officers and dozens of failed police operations.

Elton Deliu is another name that has been mentioned by the media recently. Although he has been killed since 2008, his properties have turned into a problem to the point that his former driver, Admirim Sako, was killed.

He was found murdered inside his apartment, and Deliu’s mother also remained a victim.

Emiljano Shullazi is another well-known name of the police actuality. After many arrests and murder attempts, Shullazi was free only for two months, before being arrested once again.

Friends and member of his group have been frequently killed in the recent years.

On July and September 2011, Sokol Doci and Gilmand Dani were killed. The last of his former friends was Arlind Fuga, who was killed in March 2012.

But history and conflicts between gang members or former gang members seems to continue for a long time.
