The Minister of Economic Development, Arben Ahmetaj, explained in an
interview for Top Channel what facilities there will be for business by
the trade cooperation between Albania and Kosovo, which was signed by
the two governments in Prizren.
“One of the main elements is the approach of the Durres port as the port of the Kosovo market, where all importers from Kosovo will have only one single checking procedure in the Albanian customs. This reduces the processing time for companies”, Ahmetaj declared.
Besides removing the double checks, the agreement foresees the harmonization of the trade legislation between the two countries, which makes the non-fee barriers much easier.
“The second one is related to the accrediting institutions and one of the agreement chapters focuses on that, helping the Kosovo institutions and that will enable an easier agreement between the two markets”, Ahmetaj declared.
But the agreement tends to give a solution to another issue too, that has frequently been a source of trade conflicts between the two countries. It is the issue of reference prices, which will not be established unilaterally, but will be harmonized.
“This will help for having transparent references and closer to the real prices of goods, so that the import in the Kosovo market and vice versa will not be anymore discriminated”, Ahmetaj adds.
Two days ago, in Prizren, Kosovo’s and Albania’s government gathered for the first time to establish the cooperation plans between the two Albanian states of the Albanian nation.
