Owners of the houses that will be demolished to allow the extension of the boulevard in “Skënder Kosturi”, near the train station protested over the price of 26 thousand per square meter compensation for their property.

Although not against the boulevard project they say they will not allow demolishing their houses and then compensated with this price.

“I am an old resident of Tirana and my house is estimated 18 million lekë. What can I do with this money? The state can whatever they want, but they must accommodate me because I have three children, one of them disabled. State must accommodate me and pay me for the house. I will not leave my house because it is holy and I will defend it with my blood,” said one resident.

“This is a ridiculous price. The state could not ridicule people like this” said another resident.

Residents say that their property is estimated three times less than prices set in the Property Registration Office. Meanwhile, the market price is much more.

“What can you buy with 15- 20 million that this houses are estimated?” said another resident.

Family and owners have taken a lawyer to pursue the matter and according to them, the government has violated the law, after an assessment considering them as homeless people and not the owners.

“They should refer to the prices in the area of Tirana, while they have estimated them three times less. They are considered as homeless, and not as if they are their houses. The map of prices of National Housing Agency is respected, but not what the law,” said lawyer Arben Hoxha .

Residents say they will intensify their protests and will not allow to be compensated with land price of 26 thousand lekë in an area like that, at the train station in Tirana.
